Last term KS3 students were invited to participate in the SNHS ‘Spirit of Normandy’ competition, to research and present an account on the contribution to the war effort that animals made and the impact they had on the outcome of WWII.

The History department received some wonderful entries and we are delighted to announce that Eva Bradley and Grace Cilliers were runners up, with their excellent information on a range of different WWII service animals, including pigeons and horses. Sorcha O’Brien came in second place again with a brilliant piece of work about the various animals that played a role in the war; and the winning entry was submitted by Katie Jacobs who created a wonderful diary entry from the point of view of ‘Chips’ an American mixed-breed dog who was donated by his family in New York to contribute to the war effort, winning medals for his bravery and valour and even meeting President Eisenhower!

Well done to all who entered the competition but especially Eva, Grace, Sorcha and Katie.
