Teachers are not just talking text books, or fountains of knowledge. They use many techniques along their understanding of brain development and teenage behaviour to support the learning process taking place in the minds of our young people.
We manage the learning environment, create routines and structure, as well as break down and repackage hard to understand concepts and hard to master skills. We are consonantly monitoring the "cogitative load", trying to encourage students to struggle the right amount, and balancing this with their ever changing moods and life challenges.
At a distance, all these things are much harder to do and, ultimately, families are picking up these aspects of the learning process.
We can all only do our best. Don't panic, and don't stress. Below are are few hints and tips and some practical guidance to help with the technical bits. Ultimately, be a parent and not a teacher (unless you're are both - your poor children).
