Curriculum Intent: In year 9 students will study 3 units that will help them to develop the skills and knowledge many students will need at GCSE level. They will focus on understanding and expressing habits, descriptions, and opinions, but will begin to use Spanish, in the context of broader social topics such as TV, films, the internet and social media, holidays and the Spanish speaking world. Focusing on these topics is intended to be of interest to all students, regardless of whether they will continue to study Spanish in Year 10 or not. Grammatical knowledge will be developed from what was learnt in Year 8 to include a greater focus on the use of 3 tenses, as is required at GCSE level. Continual skill development will occur through work on the four key areas of listening, speaking, reading and writing. Students will make links between these areas to develop their understanding of how languages work. Each assessment will focus on a particular exam skill element and include a productive skill as these are commonly the hardest for students. This allows students and teachers to see particular areas of strength and areas to work on in terms of knowledge, understanding and skills.
