Year 9

Design and Technology is an inspiring, rigorous and practical subject. Using creativity and imagination, our students design and make products that solve real and relevant problems within a variety of contexts, considering their own and others’ needs, wants and values. Students learn how to take risks, becoming resourceful, innovative, enterprising and capable citizens. Through the evaluation of past and present design and technology, they develop a critical understanding of its impact on daily life and the wider world.

Students will complete 3 learning modules: Product Design, Food and Nutrition and Fashion and Textiles.

Food and Nutrition	Design Individual choice of ingredients and presentation of dishes to suit family dietary needs. Swiss roll, Victoria Sandwich, Pizza whirls, Cheese and potato pasties, Sausage rolls, Seasonal biscuits, Pancakes, Fajitas, Golden vegetable soup with croutons. Make Technical Knowledge Knife skills. Safe use of hob and oven. Pastry making – shortcrust, quick puff. Cake making methods – whisking and creaming methods. Bread making. Batter making – pancakes. Safe storage and handling of ingredients. Shaping/forming. Cooking methods - Stir frying, boiling, simmering, baking. Vegetable preparation. Cooking methods - Stir frying, boiling, simmering, baking.
